Tacchino CX – Men’s Elite – Wittwer Almost Caught Everyone
Typical fall cyclocross conditions of 80ºF at the end of October made for a brutal final race at Rosaryville State Park for Tacchino CX. A first lap crash with Mattison Brady (District Velocity Racing) caused Greg Wittwer (Sweet Spot Cycling) to go down and subsequently suffering a mechanical that took an agonizingly long time to fix. But fix he did, then proceeded to make his way back up the field picking off rider after rider until only Pat Blair (Adventures For The Cure) remained in front with only a couple laps to go. Pat held off Greg to take the win with Mattison taking third. Ryan Knight (Adventures For The Cure) and Craig Etheridge (Charm City Cycling LLC/C3-Twenty20c) round out the #wideangle podium.
Special mention should go to Craig for doing a large share of the work at the front of the race while doing so on his single-speed. Dude is legit strong. Other special mention goes to Gentry Jefferson (Monticello Velo Club – pink/blue kit) for stepping up into the Elite races over the weekend and holding his own. Only 17 and super strong and is already hopping the barriers.
Finally, I need to add something more than “Nice!” into my cheering. Until then, “NICE JOB.”
