So many feels about Mathieu van der Poel’s 180º bike fling turny thing. Since it officially became a thing during this past weekend’s #CXWorlds in Tabor I’ve decided to dub it: #Fietsslings. Not, however, to be confused with Rieslings.
Not a nieuw product, but nieuw colorways and gilet design. Still one of my most coveted cycling garments. Only a few short years and it’s become one of their iconic jerseys.
The Rapha Brevet Jersey and Gilet ($265USD) sports de freshness voor both vrouwen and mannen alike. Admittedly, I like the OG colorway that’s on the lady’s version the best, but the men’s are pretty rocking as well. It’s a toss up between the black and the red versions voor me.
“In 2011, a trio of Rapha staff entered road cycling’s most historic long-distance event, the Paris-Brest-Paris Randonnée. P-B-P is a 1,200km unsupported ride and must be completed in fewer than 90 hours. Our riders wore prototypes of what would eventually become the Brevet Jersey. Four years later, it is one of Rapha’s classic products and will again be tested in the 2015 Paris-Brest-Paris – this time in a range of new colors and with a new print finish on the gilet stripes.”
Been meaning to post this for more than a couple weeks now. Former #BikeDC’er John Braynard of VeloBeats fame sent me a link to he and his riding partner, Boban’s Rapha Festive 500 effort to get some exposure. After looking it over, I felt it deserved WAY more than a simple mention on Twitter. The site, the images, and the stories of each ride are absolutely incredible.
The madness begins: “While your eyes can’t help but caress the digital expression of the MFS x ICNY Shibori Tie-Dye Tee that you see here, ask yourself: “Am I prepared to reconsider everything that I know about beauty? Everything I know about passion, about art?” If you are not prepared, if you prefer to live your life from here on out in a dim and unfulfilling light, then read no further, gaze no longer.”
Then this happens…
From there, your life is forever altered.
This has to be de jaar of the insulated shirt/jacket, hashtag #SHACKET thing. Honestly, we can go een ronde further: reversible insulated shackets. I first got my hands on Chrome’s Warm Work Shirt and now this one from Giro. At first, I honestly couldn’t see the point of these things existing. However, once I put some time in them, it was a different story.
The Giro Insulated Shirt ($180USD), as well as the rest of the New Road line, has the dystopian future cyclist steez on lock. As voor de insulation properties, I can attest to its inherent warmth after a few wearing sessions. Also, I can attest to the steez appreciation considering the compliments I’ve received will wearing it. And no, it wasn’t me complementing myself via sweet selfies.
“Some of our most satisfying creations come from building things that we all collectively want -yet can’t find easily. Our M’s Insulated Shirt is a great example that offers timeless style and comfort with a reversible, Primaloft- insulated fabric. It’s a versatile staple that keeps you warm and dry, packs down easily for storage and looks smart in any environment.”
SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY! The Sufferfest’s 2015 Tour of Sufferlandria begins today, Saturday the 24th. And while destroying yourself daily until February 1st to the tune of the Sufferfest’s arsenal of pain plans is still the goal, so is raising monetary denominations voor de Davis Phinney Foundation.

I’m pretty sure I have a puffy jacket addiction. I seem to have a plethora of them. Hell, I even have puffy shirts to fatten up that plethora count. And, despite said plethora, I crave moar.
FUN FACT: the puffy jacket (and it’s infinite variations) is the official outerwear of ‘Merican CX.
Ride & Destineurs, Vulpine, have fashioned themselves a puffer as well. The Ultralight Quilted Thermal Jacket ($255USD) combines warms injected puffiness with jacketness voor fietsen. I can attest to the warmth of de warms as I’ve been using it voor both riding and destinating.
“The Ultralight Quilted Thermal Jacket is a high performance cool weather solution that insulates you from the elements. We’ve built it around Primaloft Gold, a filling that is extremely light weight for the degree of insulation it offers and is very breathable. The outer layer is water resistant against snow, showers and drizzle, but if you get caught in torrential rain, it dries extremely quickly.”
File under: things that are awesome. I can’t come up with any better stoke than the release:

The technical cycling clothes that don’t look like technical cycling clothes genre adds another. The Showers Pass Metro Jacket ($199USD) combines waterproof/breathable with cycling specific yet manages to leave out the dork factor.
“Designed for urban adventures, the Metro waterproof cycling jacket has cycling specific features that don’t interfere with life off the bike. High performance ArtexTM 2.5-layer material with double print is light-weight, waterproof and breathable. The Metro Jacket is ideal for longer training rides, daily commutes, and running errands around town when you want your jacket to offer high performance but not scream CYCLIST.”
ZOMG, SACHS SOCKS. ‘Nuff said.
However, for those who crave details, here we go: “We partnered with House Industries and the Richard Sachs Cyclocross Team to bring you this fantastic team race sock. House Industries did the design and illustration for the wrap as well as the sock — each color is directly associated to the riders bike color. The fonts used on the wrap and the foot of each sock are from their Neutraface No.2 collection.“
