Essential ‘Grams With @imagehunters
Amsterdam, the Netherlands is our next stop as we check in with Martijn, otherwise known as @imagehunters.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
36 years old from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, working in tech and coming from a photography background.
So where to start when you need to say something about yourself…
I grew up around bicycles, and sports (with a dad who was a pro cyclist and triathlete). Cycling in whatever form was inevitable I reckon. So, I started riding BMX bikes from the age of 4 and began racing them by the age of 6 until the age of 18 or so.
When you grow up around things you also tend to rebel against it a bit as well, so I stopped riding a lot for a couple of years because of that. And also because people kept asking why I won’t go race on the road (like my old man).
Of course, I always stayed close with bike racing and the love for the sport. When a lot of my old skateboard friends started riding fixed bikes I slowly got back on the bike again and enjoying riding for fun and stories with your friends (the old crew of the Pristine store and the folks that hung out there helped a lot).
Anyway, long story short because there is lots more to tell but I’ll keep it to this. The mix of riding bikes and telling stories with photography and your friends was something really appealing to me.
So for those who wonder what I do on a daily basis; I am a product owner/architect; this means I build digital products for companies to solve different kinds of issues. Also, I help athletes and teams with social media strategies and how to position themselves for the future. If you’ve got questions just ask, hahaha 😉
How or why do you use Instagram?
Instagram gave me a lot of new close international friends and a good crazy bunch to ride bikes with. That to me is Instagram and cycling in general, the rest is all extra benefits so to say. But if Instagram goes away or we just get bored of it, we still will ride bicycles and try to find and make good stories for ourselves and with our friends.
What do you shoot with?
I use a Leica XU, Iphone X, Some old film cameras point and shoot for fun. To be honest I don’t really care about all the gear stuff even though I am blessed shooting with a Leica of course! The stories and people are what makes it interesting and gear will not bring you those.
What’s your post-processing routine?
I use a whole mix of things; Lightroom on my Surface Pro 4 with a bunch of self-made presets and some that build upon the VSCO ones that I love. I also use my phone a lot and the VSCO and Darkroom app.
What’s your selection process for posting an image?
I reckon it’s still 90% people, but now that you ask me, there will be some new things I will be trying out in ‘18 to compliment the people, but you will see it when it happens.
QUICK—NAME 5 IGERS THAT PROVIDE THE STOKE FOR YOU!!
Just 5? I like way more people than 5! So I’ll do more than 5 hahaha!
International cool volk:
To be honest it’s hard to make a list of just 5 when you got at least 5 friends or more you like to ride with at home, then international friends you travel and ride with when possible, then at least 5+ accounts of people that you don’t know but make cool stuff, and then pro’s and teams that are fun to follow, etc… So I tried to make a list of everything mixed together in no particular order or in any hierarchy, but please just go have a look at my account and browse through the folk I follow. 🙂
