When I saw time machine posted on the FYXO Instagram account the other day, it reminded me of a painful period of unrequited love. The shop I worked for back in ’00 had one of the limited edition replica Mercatone Uno Reparto Corse Aluminum models. What made this one special was it was stamped number 098 out of 500—the year Il Pirata did the Giro/Tour double. I’d think of ways I could make the money just to hang it on the wall, considering it was 3 sizes too small. A few years later someone finally purchased it on a day I wasn’t working. I was left with a bike-sized, yellow and celeste hole in my heart and a space in the window I probably filled with a USPS bike—which was the fashion at the time.
Just the thought of that makes me want to cry and vomit. Or, “cromit”, if you will.
