Lazer Z1 Helmet
I’ve been a perennial fan of Lazer’s venerable helmet, the Helium. But therein lies the problem, it was indeed venerable and indeed in need of a successor.
Today, or yesterday, that day has arrived! Lazer announced its latest helmet, the Z1.
There are a few subtle style nods to its predecessor, but the Z1 definitely reshapes the rear. Adding a significant amount of structure to the sides, Lazer reverses the “less is best” trend of road helmet tech in an effort to protect the temples.
Rounding out the rest of the features are: new lighter advanced Rollsys retention system (ARS), new strap system, Aeroshell compatibility, and lastly a weight of 220 grams.
Lazer Cappuccinolock
So far the buzz on this nieuw offering is either “GENIUS!”, or, “WTF?!” For those who have a few café stops where it’s chill enough to lean your macheen this is just an added bit of insurance. For those of you that couldn’t possibly conceive of the lean, then the Cappuccinolock from Lazer obviously isn’t for you.
Have they fixed the terrible lack of sunglasses compatibility, or are they still convinced that everyone is going to use their magnetic sunglasses?
We’ll find out soon enough. Although, I’m not sure that’s really a primary focus of any helmet designer. However, I’m not a helmet designer.
That helmet looks terrible. Wish they had just changed up the Helium/Genesis. Actually, I didn’t feel like it needed to be change. I won’t be wearing that helmet. Hopefully they don’t retire the Helium or Genesis…
I imagine they won’t retire them, or at least the Helium. The Z1 is different looking, but I think we’ll have to get used to a new trend in safer, “different than the norm” looking helmets. Especially as MIPS technology is adopted.
So what were the thoughts? Possibly replacing a crash damaged Genesis with one of these.
Continuing from Twitter… It’s the (obviously) best helmet they’ve produced. Aesthetically, it’s still very much a Lazer. So when you pick it up expecting the heft of a Genesis or Helium, you’re blown away by how light it is. Also a fan of the fit. I’ve pretty much found nothing negative about it.
