Kicking off the new year with something I’ve wanted to put together for more than a few years. In the vein of the “5 Questions” series I did waaaaay back in 2013 with some well-known cycling photographers, I’m looking to profile cycling Instagrammers I think are killing it. It looks as though I may have a decent amount of participants, so you can look forward to at least weekly posts in the foreseeable future. Let me know who your favorite Instagrammers are and I’ll see if I can get them profiled here. First up, we check out @dirtdrops from Northern California.
I hope you geek out and enjoy reading Essential ‘Grams as much as I have been while compiling these posts.
@dirtdrops
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Started in SoCal. Learned about bikes in Philly. @dexspts sold me my first bike. Oh yeah, it had a King headset.
Relocated to NorCal. Been living in Santa Cruz County for 4 years. All you have to do is point a camera here and you get a great capture.
I am currently an ambassador for @nomadcyclingapparel. No racing, just riding and experiencing movement on the bike.
How or why do you use Instagram?
Always has been, always will be a hobby. My best captures occur during actual experiences. Life on the bike is…life!
What do you shoot with?
Mostly Sony RX100 V. When I have a bag, I’ll bring my Sony a6000. Lately, my most liked posts have been shot with my a6000 and a 50mm (f1.8) prime lens.
What’s your post-processing routine?
SD card – external hard drive – Lightroom on laptop. Edit briefly then AirDrop to my phone for the IG post.
What’s your selection process for posting an image?
I typically look at my feed and try to post a pic that contrasts the previous post. It’s always my best shot of the day. When I have multiple exposures from a ride, I put them in my story and then post them to my feed over a few days
